We are a gathering
of Christians who worship the triune God, Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit. We affirm very strongly that
Jesus is our Lord, and we believe that our life in God
is the result of God's seeking us out through Jesus.
As Jesus has sought, and found us, we come to baptism
in response to what God does in the creation through
Jesus and the Holy Spirit. When we are
baptized, whether as adults or children, we are baptized
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, we are marked with the cross of Christ forever,
and we become the children of God.
We gather
weekly that we might be nourished in our Lord and His
word for us. Our nourishment that comes in our
weekly "family of God" gathering where we pray together,
confess our sins and receive God's Word of forgiveness,
sing together, listen together to Scripture and sermon,
and have offered to us the meal we call "Holy
Communion."
Weekly Pastor Ed
presides at our family meal giving us the bread that he,
and we believe, is the body of Christ, and various of
our brothers and sisters serve us the wine that we
believe is the blood of Christ. Holy Communion
is given that we might be nurtured in the kingdom of God
that is to come - a meal, a feast, for all who come to
the table having been baptized and in whatever way,
whether boldly or weakly, believing that Jesus is truly
present to us in this weekly feast.
We are
evangelical in that we seek to bear the good news of
Jesus and his redemption of us, and of all who come to
believe upon him, into the world. We hope that
many will hear the good news we proclaim. We know
the world around us is filled with all sorts of claims
and clamors, some very good and some very deadly,
whether openly deadly or disguised deadly. We
remember our Lord came into the world not to condemn the
world but to save it. We hope by our actions and
dispositions we contribute to salvation rather than
condemnation, life rather than death.
Having been
nurtured in the kingdom to come in our weekly family of
God gathering, we invite all who worship here, whether
formal members or not, to help with a variety of
"ministries" (actions of service to and in the world
to a great variety of people) such as our Prayer Shawl
Ministry, our newly emerging "My Neighbor's Kitchen,"
our regular collecting of canned goods for the South
York Food Pantry, our assistance to various Southern
Communities Services initiatives (e.g., toys to a needy
family at Christmas, back to school supplies), our "Hot
Dog Ministry" and our "Bicycle Repair Ministry."
