Our group is formally called the “Koinonia Group”.

Zion Lutheran Church, Glen Rock, PA - Visitation Gift Baskets - Christmas 2019Koinonia is a Greek word which has several meanings, but the spirit of the word is “fellowship”.  That is what we strive for.  We offer support, friendship and encouragement.

Our visitation group visits shut-ins or anyone who can use a chat and a prayer. We call them our "VIPs".  We collect birthday, Easter, and Christmas cards from the congregation for our VIPs.  We visit each of them on their birthday, and we visit all of them on Easter and Christmas when we give them a basket of food and other gifts donated by the congregation.  We also visit if/when we receive a special request, when the need arises, and we keep in touch with them throughout the year.

Zion Lutheran Church Christmas Caroling - 2019We combine a Christmas caroling outing with our Christmas visit to each VIP, and our congregation is invited to join us for the visit.

Our VIPs also receive visits for pastoral services, communion, etc. from our Pastors including Pastor Katie Brantner (St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hametown), Pastor Douglas DeStephano (Christ Lutheran Church, Loganville), and Pastor George Schneider (St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Freedom).

The list of people we visit changes from time to time, and most of our locations are within near reach of York.  Right now, our visitation list includes the following locations:

  • SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Kelly Drive
  • SpiriTrust Lutheran, Village At Sprenkle Drive
  • Country Meadows Retirement Community
  • Brunswick at Longstown
  • The Haven at Springwood
  • Private Homes in Glen Rock
  • State Prison (cards by mail only)
